Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctury

Sonanadi wildlife Sanctuary is located adjacent to Jim Corbett National Park. The sanctuary loxcated in Nainital district of Uttarakhand is spread in 306 sq km. This sanctuary is an obselete and tranquil national park serving as a ideal shelter to a various species of fauna and flora. Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is named after the Sonanadi River (meaning river of gold).Corbett fall, Corbett Museum (Dhangadi Gate), and Garija Devi Temple are also very popular tourist spots suitable for visiting in the region.

Flora and Fauna@Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctury

Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is overwhelmed with various faunas. The sanctuary is similar to typical North Indian tropical forests.Different species of Sal, Sheesham, Semal, Bakli, Aonla, Jamun, Kanthber, Figs and along with medicinal plants are available here with some endangered rare species of Herbs and Shrubs.

The Wildlife reserve accomodates approx 600 types of resident and migratory birds constituting 6% of the total bird species in the world. Bird lovers can find more than 150 species of birds inside Sonanadi Sanctuary.Normally seen bird species are-Thrushes, Pheasants, Hornbills, Warblers, Flycatchers, Wall Creeper, Changeable Hawk Eagle, emerald Dove, Himalayan Bearded Vulture, Falcon, Brown Fish Owls, etc.

Animals found in the wildlife sanctuary are Leopard, Sambhar, Cheetal, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Goral, Otter, Porcupine, Yellow-Throated Marten and Sloth Bear. The giants like Elephants and Tigers are favorites among the visitors. A large display of reptiles like Python, Monitor Lizard, King Cobra, Different kind of Turtles, Gharials, Mugger, Mahaseer, and Indian Trout etc.

Corbett National Park and Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary together comprise the Tiger Reserve hosting the second largest population of Tiger-Panther in the world. The rare sightings of Himalayan Black Bear and Albino Cheetal are also seen in Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary.

Jungle Safari@Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctury

The visitors can go for Elephant Safari in Corbett,Jeep Safari or Canter Safari with prior booking required for Jeep safari.Tourists can also go for a forest trail with armed guard.This can prove to be real thrilling experience of life time.Sanctuary since located near Corbett National Park,and tourists can expect to see Asiatic Elephants, Tigers and many other species in their natural Habitat.

Forest Rest Houses are available a Halduparao at Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary located between the rivers Palain and Sonanadi, Loha chaur and Rathuadhab.
