Mani Mahesh Trek is one of the major pilgrimage sites and a popular trekking destination in Himachal Pradesh. Manimahesh, also known as Chamba Kailash, is one of the Panch Kailash situated in the Pir Panjal range of the Bharmour subdivision of Himachal’s Chamba district. It is believed that Lord Shiva created his abode here after his marriage to Mata Parvati. The peak is a rock formation in the shape of Shivling that stands high over Manimahesh Lake. The snowfield at the base of the mountain is called Shiva’s Chaugan. Both of these places are found sacred and are visited by many Hindu pilgrims.

Exhausting but breathtaking!
Parikrama(Circuit) of Kinnaur Kailash trek is one of the most strenuous trek in Himachal Pradesh. The trek starts from Charang village and ends at Chitkul village in Baspa valley of Kinnaur. Charang-La aka Charang-Chitkul pass forms a drainage divide between Tidong valley and Baspa valley of Kinnaur. Tidong stream meets Satluj at Moorang whereas Baspa meets Satluj on its right bank at Karcham.

Kinner Kailash with all its majesty
From the vantage points in Kalpa, you get to see the huge mountain ranges of Kinnaur Kailash which loom large onto you. At the very first sight of the mountains, enroute Reckong Peo, one would not be looking up towards the mountains, rather the mountains would be looking at you where ever you move. Both Reckong Peo and Kalpa are surrounded by the mighty Himalayan ranges. And very up close. Initially you would not find the Kinner Kailash peak, although it is the highest peak of this range attaining a sheer height of 6050 m from sea level. However, with some reference of pictures you will be able to spot the Kailash Khand amidst other towering peaks surrounding it.
The Kailash Khand is a 80 ft high quartzite monolith perched on a rocky slab and refracts sunlight throughout the day in different colours. The locals say that mighty Shiva linga changes colours in 11 different shades throughout a perfect sunny day.
