  • If you are riding by yourself, it is advisable to keep some fuel in hand, just in case as there are not many petrol stations on the way, especially on the highway to Kaza.
  • It might get quite cold at the higher altitudes and jerkins, sweaters and medicines are a must-carry on your trip!

What are the famous monasteries in Lahaul-Spiti?

Here are some of the most famous monasteries that you can visit on your Lahaul-Spiti valley Tour:

  • Key Monastery – Situated at a staggering height of 13,500 feet – the Key Monastery overlooks the Kaza valley and is one of the largest monasteries in the region. It is nestled away on a monolithic conical hill and features an interesting, irregular design with low rooms and narrow corridors. There are hundreds of Lamas who receive their training here, and you can also see numerous murals, beautiful thankas and rare manuscripts in this place.
  • Tangyud Gompa – The renowned Tangyud Gompa is located near the village of Comic and is quite important historically. Legend says that the Buddhists in this Gompa revised the Tang-Gyud, which consists of the 87 volumes of one of the classes of Tibetan scriptures. It is believed that the Lamas of this gompa are extremely proficient in tantra. So, make the best of your Spiti Valley trip by adding this experience to your Spiti Valley packages.
  • Kungri Gompa – Located in the Pin valley, this is the second oldest monastery in Spiti. It was built in 1330 AD as a result of large foreign donations and is made up of three rectangular building blocks, all detached from each other and facing east. This is one of the few monasteries in the valley which shows undebatable evidence of the tantric cult of Buddhism, so make sure you include this place in your Lahaul Spiti packages.
  • Dhankar Gompa – This monastery is located on the left bank of the Spiti river and 32 km away from Kaza, at an altitude of nearly 3870 m. The strategic location of the Gompa allowed locals to monitor the entry of foreigners into the valley and get a chance to subvert their attacks.
  • Kibber – Situated at a towering height of 14,200 feet, this gompa is perched on the top of a limestone rock. Kibber is nestled just 16 km away from Kaza and you can easily find a bus to the gompa from the valley in the summers. The gompa is located in a charming little hamlet which is full of lush green hills and refreshing natural beauty and one of the must visites places on your Spiti Valley trip.
.

Here are the most significant rivers in the valley:

  • Chandra-Bhaga or Chenab - The upper course of the river is famous as Chandra-Bhaga, as it is formed by the confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers. The two of them meet in Tandi, and as the river makes its way through Lahaul, it lays down thick segments of sedimentary deposits. In the summer, the river is seen in its full glory, and flash floods are pretty common. But during winters, the river is sometimes frozen. As it descends through the Western Himalayan ranges, the river starts turning northwesterly towards the cold deserts of Lahaul valley, and here it is known as Chenab. It flows along the northern parts of the Pir Panjal mountain range and enters the Doda region of J&K through a spectacular gorge. After that, the river runs south and enters the plains.
  • Spiti River - It is the largest tributary of the Satluj River and is formed by a variety of small streams. Most of these streams are fed by the snow from various glaciers in the northern Himalayan region in the Spiti Valley. The general direction of the river is south-eastern as it makes its way through the Valley, and it joins the Satluj river at Namgia, and it is considered one of the best places to visit during winter and it must be included in your spiti valley winter tour packages.

  • Trekking pants that are comfortable and warm
  • 1-2 caps to protect yourself from harsh sunlight in the summers and cold wind in the winters. In winters, you can also carry a balaclava.
  • A pair of sunglasses to protect yourself from reflections from the white snow.
  • Hand gloves to protect your hands from the cold.

Yes there is high chances of snowfall.

  • Stargazing: Topping the bucket list of many, Spiti, due to its high altitude and low pollution levels allows for the best stargazing opportunities in the country. Places like Dhankar, Hikkim, Langza, and Kaza are great to see the Milky Way Galaxy and a sky blazing with a million lights. If you are lucky you can even spot a shooting star here, which is a once in a lifetime experience.
  • Savour the local traditions: The best way to do this is by including a homestay in your Spiti Valley packages. After a day of sightseeing, the families that you stay with are more than happy to put up a beautiful show of their local songs, dance, and food at night.
  • Camp amidst wilderness: With its almost barren landscape of high peaks and miles of nothingness, Spiti is as raw and wild as it gets. The best way to savour this is to stay in a camp overnight and soak in the sounds of the local wildlife and the night time beauty of nature at places like Tsupark, Sissu, and Sarchu.

Here are some of the most common mistakes you should avoid when planning your Spiti Valley trip:

  • Ignoring Acclimatization – No matter how fit and strong you are, how much you train every day, or how much protein you eat – everybody needs to acclimatize to the higher altitude irrespective of fitness level, age and sex. So make sure that you give your body enough time to get used to the lower oxygen levels.
  • Ignoring Road Safety Measures hen Driving to the Valley – Most people tend to underestimate how treacherous the passage to the valley is. No matter how many miles you have under your belt and how many times you have passed Rohtang, Lahaul-Spiti is an entirely different beast, and we recommend taking appropriate precautions if you are driving there yourself.
  • Not Planning the Trip – Lahaul-Spiti is a very volatile region when it comes to its geography and weather. If the weather worsens or you get stuck somewhere, it can lead to dire consequences. That is why we recommend planning your trip meticulously with every detail outlined.
  • Taking Small Babies with Them – This is highly dangerous for the baby as well as the adult. Children have an extremely hard time adjusting to low oxygen levels and they are also more prone to altitude sickness. If anything like that happens, their conditions can quickly become worse.
  • Drinking Alcohol before Going – No matter how much experience you have with alcohol, do not take this warning lightly. Excessive amounts of alcohol along with tobacco smoking and other depressant drugs can lower respiratory drive and worsen the symptoms of altitude sickness.
  • Making a 4-5-day plan for the valley – To fully enjoy the gorgeous landscapes the valley has to offer; 4-5 days are not enough. When planning your trip, make sure you have at least 10 days set aside for the Lahaul-Spiti circuit.

  • Goldrops Camp: Known for its location amidst the snow-capped mountains and acres of the barren landscape of Sissu, this is one of the best camps to stay at. They offer comfortable camps, great food, parking, and local sightseeing.
  • Bhaga Eco Camp: Located at the banks of Bhaga River in Jispa, this campsite offers spacious tents with attached European washrooms. You can enjoy a bonfire, stargazing, trekking, bird watching, and nature trails at this amazing campsite and top choices in Spiti Valley tour packages
  • Pallha Ecotourism: Located at Tsupark, this camping farm offers an unbeatable camping experience that is not only fun but also in line with sustainable practices for preserving the fragile Spiti ecosystem. You can enjoy organic farm walks, nature trails, stargazing, and bonfire here.
  • Juniper Valley Camps: Lose yourself in the stunning beauty of Spiti as you stay at this luxury campsite that offers European, Continental, American, and Mod-American tent options. The site offers free WiFi, campfire, delicious food, mountain biking, hiking, and stargazing facilities.

Our trip was wonderful beyond our expectations. The driver was great and timely placed on our schedule, with exceptional vibes in Babaji Caves. The hotels B&Bs were all excellent locations with the top city attractions nearby in each case. From Arriving to departing everything was great.

Overall a very good experience...

Arranged a honeymoon tour for my brother and his wife thru all seasons tour. I must say Mr Rahule the travel expert was very cooperative and patient in discussing the intricate travel arrangements with me. The hotels and rooms provided were quite good and clean. The driver was very cooperative and the vehicle was in excellent condition. Overall a very good experience and strongly recommend them.

made my experience excellent...

Recently had a memorable solo trip arranged by Allseaons holidays. Allseasons Holidays, especially Mr. Avneet, went above and beyond to make your trip memorable. Hotels and vehicle driver specifically made my experience excellent, I would definitely recommend others to give chances to Allseasons holidays to plan your trip.
