During tourist rush Nainital Water Supply Halved
The district administrations decision to cut water supply to 8 million liters daily from 16 million liters daily from Tuesday has caught both residents and hotel owners by surprise with most of them struggling to serve to the needs of the tourists holidaying in Nainital on Diwali Occasion. The district administration has decided to lessen the water supply to 8 MLD from 16 MLD because of the critical condition of Nainital Lake. At present the water level is at 10 feet.
But the decision has annoyed residents and hoteliers alike as there is a heavy travelers rush with hotels fully booked during the festive season. Sameer Sah a resident of Nainital said that the 8 MLD supply is sometimes not enough for residents itself and if the situation remains same then we will also face water scarcity situation like Shimla. A hotel owner said that this decision will affect us and the tourists badly. The administration should keep all these things in mind before taking any decision.
Meanwhile VK Suman, District Magistrate said that the decision will not cause inconvenience to residents. The 8 MLD was being maintained since January and the supply was doubled due to some confusion but now have restored to the previous levels. According to Jal Sansthan Official water consumption touches 18 20 MLD during peak tourist season from May 1 to June 30. After the water level plunged to threatening levels the administration had introduced water cut in winter.
